MSc thesis defense by Christoffer Bruun-Schmidt

Christoffer Bruun-Schmidt will be defending his MSc thesis "Infall Velocity in Galaxy Clusters"

My master's thesis consists of two separate parts. In the first part, I try to determine whether a particle removed from the Hubble flow will rejoin the Hubble flow or not. I find that the answer depends partly on the mathematical definition of the phrase "to rejoin the Hubble flow" and partly on the dominant equation of state.

In the second part, I estimate the influence that the infall velocity in galaxy clusters has on the cluster dynamics. I find that the infall velocity is non-negligible outside approximately one virial radius according to simulation data.
