NBIA Colloquium
"The detection of high energy extra-terrestrial neutrinos by IceCube opens a new window for observations of the Universe. I will discuss the origin of these neutrinos, the clues that their detection provide towards the solution of the long standing question of the origin of cosmic rays, and the prospects for identifying the cosmic-ray sources and for studying open questions in astrophysics and particle physics using combined electromagnetic and neutrino observations." Professor Waxman is director of the Benoziyo Center for Astrophysics at the Weizmann Institute of Science. After completing his Ph.D. at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem in 1994 he spent four years at the Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton. In 1998, he joined the physics faculty of the Weizmann Institute of Science, where he served as the Chair of the Department of Particle Physics and Astrophysics from 2009 to 2012.
As usual, refreshments will be served in the NBIA lounge after the talk. All are welcome!
